Acer has a new model to compete among high-end lightweight laptops. The Acer Swift 3, in its SF314-51-52W2 version, has compact dimensions and the perfect balance between performance and portability.
Acer Swift 3 SF314-51-52W2: Overview
Firstly, I must say that the Acer Swift 3 is one of the best surprises among laptop releases in 2016. It’s beautiful, it’s light, and the price is quite attractive. There has been quite something since we don’t have an Acer laptop review on Value Nomad, but the Swift 3 came just in the right time.
Starting from its design, Acer has put together a beautiful all metal (aluminium) body for the Swift 3. Its dimensions are rather compact, and the Swift 3 is just 17.9 mm thin, with a weight of just 1.5 kg. Apart from that, it also comes with a backlit keyboard, which feels comfortable and firm.
The specific model on this review is the SF314-51-52W2, which comes in Silver (there are also versions with a golden chassis). It has a rather balanced hardware setup, including a Skylake processor, DDR4 RAM and SSD storage.
The i5-6200u in this laptop is a dual core processor part of the sixth generation of Intel chips named Skylake. Aimed at performance with low energy consumption, this processor performs pretty well and allows a greater battery autonomy.
The fact that this laptop has 8 GB DDR4 ram shows how efficient this laptop is. The DDR4 technology is much faster than the DDR3, and 8 GB will allow you to multi-task on Windows 10 with great versatility.
Its dimensions and aluminium body certainly make of this laptop a great choice among lightweight models. As mentioned above, the battery autonomy is great, lasting up to 10 hours according to the manufacturer.
It is also important to mention that the Acer Swift 3 SF314-51-52W2 also comes with a 14 inch Full HD IPD LED backlit screen. This contributes greatly to the quality of images displayed, especially if you work with image editing software, or if you watch videos often.
This laptop is pretty balanced, with an overall excellent hardware setup. However, 256 GB of SSD storage might be not enough for some. You can easily improve you storage capacity upgrading the SSD and also using a SD card or USB stick.
