Acer E5-576G-81GD Review: What’s new?

The Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G-81GD is one of the latest versions of this award winning laptop series. In this review we will focus on its main hardware components, which have been released this year.

The highlights of this laptop are its new processor and GPU. The all new Kaby Lake R processor in this laptop brings the 8th generation of Intel chips to the Acer Aspire series. The Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G-81GD also features the new NVIDIA MX150 video card, a dedicated entry level GPU from the latest series of NVIDIA cards.

Design

The design of the Acer Aspire series is rather “traditional”  and fits what is considered a business laptop. This new version is no exception, and has a rather simple black design.

However, its chassis is very sturdy, and its external parts do not feel cheap. Its keyboard is pretty comfortable to use and is ideal if you write a lot of content using your laptop. The same can be said about its touchpad, that responses quickly and smoothly to your finger commands.

Acer E5-576G-81GD Specs

Now let’s analyze each of the main hardware specs of this Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G-81GD Version:

CPU

The CPU is certainly the most exciting hardware component of this laptop, as its the brand new Intel Core i7-8550U. As mentioned above, it is part of the 8th generation of intel chips, and it uses the Kaby Lake R micro-architecture.

It has a base frequency of 1.80 GHz but its turbo its up to incredible 4.0 GHz. This shows how the new generation of Intel chips is versatile. The i7-8550U is a quad core processor with hyper-threading and a pretty low TDP of just 15 W (configurable up and down).

GPU

Just like the CPU, the GPU in this laptop is also new and brings a lot of interesting technical aspects. This specific version of the Acer Aspire E 15 brings the all new NVIDIA MX150 video card.

The NVIDIA MX150 is part of the GeForce 10 series and is the mobile version of the GT 1030 desktop GPU. The NVIDIA MX150 is  an entry level dedicated graphics card.

The main difference here is that, in case you use resource demanding software for video like games, having a dedicated video card gives you an extremely high edge over having an integrated graphics card. For that reason, this Acer Aspire has a much better gaming performance than other similarly priced laptops without a dedicated GPU.

Display

Following the same trend as previous versions with a similar price, this laptop comes with a 15.6 Full HD display. In this sense, there is nothing new about this laptop, as previous versions like the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM which already had a 15.6 Full HD display.

Storage

One great thing about laptop is its storage capacity. In what seems to be a trend on upper mid-range laptops, solid-state drives are becoming more and more popular. This specific version comes with a 256 GB SSD which runs great and boots Windows 10 at an amazing speed, specially if compared to HDDs.

Solid-state drives do not have moving parts as HDDs, they access data faster and do not tend to lose speed over time as HDDs moving parts worn out.

Connectivity

Connectivity is also a key factor for a laptop, as everyone always need peripherals. In my personal opinion what matters here the most is the number of USB ports. This Acer laptop has one USB 3.1 Type C, 2  USB 3.0 ports,  and 1 USB 2.0 port, and like in almost every laptop these days, an HDMI port.

Verdict

The Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G-81GD seems to be on the way to continue the success of some of the previous models from the series like the Acer this and Acer that.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that this laptop has a great battery capacity with its 6-cell Li-Ion Battery (2800 mAh), which according to the manufacturer can last up to 15 hours without requiring a charge.

If you are looking to other laptops in the same category as this one, I recommend checking our other reviews. The Acer Spin 5 review might be a good option, as well as the Acer E 15 E5-575G-75MD.
