Despite Asus and Acer 17 Inch laptops being not as popular as 15 or 14 inches models, they target a specific public which focuses on performance rather than mobility. Is a 17 inch Laptop Worth it (for you)?
There are a few user profiles that I’d like to point which would be definitely the perfect ones for buying 17 inch laptop, and they are:
- Gamers
- Photographers
- CG Artists
- Video Producers
- Architects
- Designers
- Anything else that deals with digital graphics
On the other hand, I would not recommend buying an Asus or Acer 17 inch screen laptop if you will commute daily with it, or if you are a digital nomad. It is heavier, and even if laptops got thinner and smaller in the past few years, especially the ultrabooks, you will still have a hard time to transport it (if often) due to the dimensions of your 17 inches screen laptop.
Acer vs Asus
Acer and Asus have strong similarities. Both were founded in Taiwan a few decades ago, both are manufacturers of very similar range of products (laptops, smartphones tablets), and both had rocketing revenues in the US since the 1990’s. Asus is considerably bigger than Acer with 21,000 employees, with Acer has just above 7,000.
There is a number of forum posts like this suggesting that Asus would be better built than Acer laptops, although that is highly doubtful. Since they are both manufacturers of the same products using moslty the same hardware (Intel processors, NVIDIA graphic cards, tc), it is very hard to say that one brand is above the other.
To Determine whether you should buy an Acer laptop or an Asus laptop, you should read the reviews for each one of the models you are interested in, as it’s quite common that in the laptop industries one series of products has a typical recurrent problem, while the next series the same problem is has no occurrences.
