American Truck Simulator: Why You Should Buy It?
If you like driving simulators there is a good chance you have heard of American Truck Simulator. The “younger brother” of Euro Truck Simulator is one of the most popular driving simulation games.
Just like Euro Truck Simulator, American Truck Simulator was developed by SCS Software from the Czech Republic. They both have a lot in common, including the way the game develops, and the same core values. In American Truck Simulator, you drive heavyweight freights among a few American States.

Both American and Euro Truck Simulator have DLC’s that, from time to time, add more maps or other interesting features to the game. Other than that, both games have a vivid modding community.
American Truck Simulator: Laptop System Requirements
Now, let’s analyze what kind of hardware you should have on your laptop to run ATS smoothly. American Truck Simulator is not a very resource demanding game, and most mid-range laptops available in 2017 will manage the game well. However, it is important to check the system requirements carefully, especially if you want to run it on very high settings.
According to the SCS Soft website they have two requirements set up for playing American Truck Simulator. One of them is the minimum system requirements, and the other is the recommended settings. Both refer to hardware for desktop PCs, and I will “translate” what it means if you want to run ATS on your laptop. I will focus on the recommended settings to guarantee a smooth gamin experience on ATS 2.
SCS states that the following OS are recommended for playing the game smoothly: Windows 7/8.1/10 64-bit, Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite), Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit. A great advantage of American Truck Simulator, as you can enjoy it on Linux.
Other they that they recommend 6 GB RAM and a GeForce GTX 760 video card. Since laptops with 6 GB RAM are quite hard to find, I would suggest 8 GB RAM DDR4. The GeForce GTX 760 (which is a desktop GPU) has a benchmark comparable to GTX 1050 Ti (mobile). You will be able to run ATS smoothly though, with a few less powerful mobile GPUs, like the 960M pretty decently.
SCS does not recommend an ideal CPU for ATS, but I would reckon a dual core i5/i7 from the Skylake or Kaby Lake generation to be satisfactory (if it has hyperthreading). Alternatively, a quad core CPU from these generations would be optimal.
