If you are into simulation, you certainly have hear about Microsoft Flight Simulator X, one of the best in its genre. In this post, we will analyze the best laptops for FSX in terms of hardware and budget.

best laptops for fsx
Microsoft Flight Simulator has been the most successful flight simulator franchise ever created. Despite the fact Microsoft stopped developing it in 2006, the game is still very active today thanks to a huge community of simulation enthusiasts. There are also plenty of add-ons by a number of private companies like Aerosoft and PMDG being constantly updated. In the end of 2014 FSX also got a Steam version, thanks to a deal between Microsoft and Dovetail games.

What Laptop You Should Get to Run FSX?

This is certainly a complicated question, as it depends on a rather vast number of factors. Differently from other Simulators like Eurotruck Simulator or Farm Simulator, FSX has a a number of add-ons that require different hardware requirements to run them smoothly.

To put it shortly, almost any laptop running Win 10 will allow you to install Flight Simulator and get around the game without major problems. However, if you want add ons, and you probably will, you will also need a powerful laptop.

Recommended Laptop System Requirements for FSX

The system requirements disclosed here are my personal opinions. They include the constant need of FSX users to run complex add-ons recently released. These requirements are a mix of what Aerosoft suggests to run its Boeing 777 Add-on (which is extremely heavy) combined with the latest trends on laptop markets in 2020. These specs will guarantee that you will be able to run FSX smoothly for years to come.

It is important to stress that there are RECOMMENDED SETTINGS. You will probably be able to run FSX with a much less powerful hardware, however the graphic setting might be rather poor. I would in any case, suggest laptops with a at least a dedicated GPU and 8 GB RAM.

Recommended System Requirements for FSX: Skylake or Kaby Lake Intel Core i5 or i7, NVIDIA 960 GTX video card or superior and 8 GB RAM or more. It is also advisable to have 500GB HDD or 128GB SSD (or more storage). In terms of OS, any of the latest Windows versions will do, but ideally use 7 or above.

Let’s go to the list of devices, firstly for North America and then onto UK and Europe:

Nice laptop suggestions but honestly most of them are overkill for FSX. A GTX950 or 960 or similar, and a laptop Core i7 dual core, and 8GB DDR3 or DDR4 runs FSX at Full HD with add-ons at 50+ FPS.

Hi Dave, thanks for your opinion. However, if you run the latest add-ons, for example a PMDG 777 aircraft with an Aerosoft Scenario, you will certainly not get even get 30 fps with a dual core laptop, I can guarantee you. If you check YouTube for the most realistic FSX videos, with heavy add-ons, they don’t use laptops, they use desktops often with i7-6700K and a very powerful desktop GPU, which usually have much higher benchmarks than laptops GPU.

A dual core Skylake laptop with a GTX 950M, will only run FSX smoothly if you don’t mind good graphics too much.

What about the MSI GV62, 8 RD-275 with NVIDIA GTX, intel i5-8300H, 8 GB, 256 SSD?
it costs $799 only. Will that be ok to run Fsx?

      • Value Nomad

absolutely yes, easily. FSX is more than 10 years old. However if you download the newest and heaviest add-ons like PMDG or some ultra realistic sceneries, the FPS will be lower.

will the laptops you have listed run fax or x-flight 10 with few hiccups and good graphics

    • Value Nomad

They should run well. However, if you get for example, Aerosoft Sceneries and PMDG aircraft with some of these ultra realistic terrain, it can get more complicate. It depends on the number of add-ons you have and which of them.

    • Value Nomad

In most scenarios and aircrafts, yes.
