Choose the best laptops for online trading is a bit different than what I usually do here, because they have a very different profile from laptops that gamers want, or users that require a lot of computer power expect to find inside their laptops components.
Online trading, may it be the usual stocks, forex, commodities or more exotic options like CFDs, derivatives and even binary options have been one of the possibilities that digital nomads can have even they are looking for a type of income that is totally location independent. As you can trade online from almost anywhere, all it takes is a laptop, and in this case, it better be a good one.
Key Points on a Laptop for Online Trading
The aspects which I consider optimal for online trading on a laptop are: display dimensions, weight, sturdiness.
Display Dimensions
Online trading most often than not involves deep and complex analysis of live charts, especially if your trade is based on technical analysis, you will spend most of your time checking different sorts of charts, therefore, opt for a big screen, ideally a 17 inch laptop, but definitely not less than 15.
Weight
As an online trader and a digital nomad, it’s expected that you will move around quite often with your laptop. It will definitely make your life easier if your laptop is as light as possible, but, considering it will have a big screen, that’s a combination hard to pull. I suggest going for laptops with solid state drives instead of hard drive disks, not only they are smaller and faster, but as a trader you won’t need a 1TB hard drive anyway, even a 128GB SSD will do just fine.
Sturdiness
For the same reasons mentioned above in regards to weight (moving a lot often), you will need a tough laptop. The easiest way to know your laptop is sturdy enough is buying a laptop with a metal carcass. That doesn’t mean that plastic ones are too fragile, but metal is an obvious advantage, especially considering that alluminium for example, is quite light.
