Gigabyte Sabre review: let’s analyze one of the best value for the money in the gaming laptop niche this year, the all new Gigabyte Sabre gaming laptop
Are you looking for a powerful and affordable gaming laptop? Check the Gigabyte Sabre review below and understand why this is probably one of the best purchases in the gaming laptop niche this year.
Gigabyte Sabre Overview
There is no doubt that Gigabyte is one of the most committed brands in the gaming world. They manufacture state of art motherboards and GPUs, as well as amazing gaming laptops.
The manufacturer of the Sabre is from Taiwan, a country known for other high tech giants like Acer and MSI. While Gigabyte is less known among more traditional laptop users, gaming enthusiasts certainly have heard of it.
Gigabyte Sabre Design
The first impression does count. While that is not too relevant in business laptops, in the gaming or the design niche, it usually is. Some users may consider the design more or less important, but some functional design features are certainly worth analyzing.
The Gigabyte Sabre design is not as aggressive as most gaming laptops, however, I consider it quite appealing. It’s black chassis feels very sturdy, and it is thinner than a considerable amount of gaming laptops.
Its design highlight is certainly its backlit keyboard, with more than 16 milion colors (RGB) to choose how you want your keyboard lighting.
Gigabyte Sabre Review: Hardware
While the design has a relative impact in choosing a gaming laptop, the situation regarding hardware is quite different. Having a powerful hardware will make all the difference on your gaming performance. Therefore it is easy to understand that users in the gaming niche care mostly about hardware.
Gigabyte Sabre CPU
All the laptops analyzed in this Gigabyte Sabre review have the Core i7-7700HQ CPU. The Core i7-7700HQ is part of the Kaby Lake generation of Intel chips, and is currently one of the most popular and powerful available for laptops.
According to its specs page by Intel, the i7-7700HQ has a base frequency of 2.80 GHz, and a maximum turbo speed of 3.80 GHz. The Core i7-7700HQ also uses the hyper-threading technology, allowing this processor to have a pretty high benchmark.
Gigabyte Sabre GPU
The Gigabyte Sabre versions analyzed in this review have two dedicated graphics card options. The NVIDIA GeForce 1050 and 1050 Ti are part of the GeForce 10 series, which powers most high-end gaming laptop released in 2017.
While both the 1050 and 1050 Ti have a pretty good performance, they are the least powerful available for laptops in the GeForce 10 series. Even if there are other, more powerful models, the 1050 and 1050 Ti are still high-end dedicated video cards and have a great performance.
You can read more about the GeForce 1050 benchmark here, and the GeForce 1050 Ti benchmark here.
Gigabyte Sabre Connectivity
In terms of connectivity, the Gigabyte Sabre is pretty average. I wouldn’t say it has not enough ports or that it excels other similarly priced laptops. In my opinion, it has enough USB ports, and also uses the HDMI and MiniDisplay technology, which is pretty useful if you want to connect it to larger displays.
Gigabyte Sabre Review: Versions
As mentioned above, there are a few different Gigabyte Sabre versions currently available. We will analyze a few of them, pointing their differences. The differences are however not very important, and the overall performance of its different versions is pretty similar.

Gigabyte Sabre Alternatives
The Gigabyte Sabre is really appealing, but if you are looking for a gaming laptop, you might want to shop around before purchasing. Here are some good alternatives in our Gigabyte Review that definitely need to be considered.
PROSTAR Clevo Gaming Laptop N855HJ 15.6″ Full HD (1920×1080) Matte Type Display, Intel Core i7-7700HQ, 8GB DDR4, GTX 1050, 1TB HDD
This is a great alternative to the Gigabyte Sabre, and has an extremely similar hardware setup. It is also one of the best budget gaming laptops powered by the Core i7-7700HQ processor.
The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 powers this laptop, and is part of the GeForce 10 series. Even if there are many other GeForce GPUs with a higher benchmark than the 1050, it still has a pretty good performance in most games released this year.
Its 8 GB DDR4 RAM are certainly not impressive, however for its price, it is a great laptop. Alternatively, you can easily expand its RAM, to improve its overall performance.

Gigabyte Aero 14Wv7-OG4 (i7-7700HQ, 16GB RAM, 512GB SATA SSD, NVIDIA GTX 1060 6GB, 14″ IPS QHD, Windows 10)
If you want to buy a Gigabyte laptop, but you want more hardware power than the Sabre, the Gigabyte Aero is a great option. It is also thinner than the Sabre, and slightly more compact.
The first impressions of the Gigabyte Aero could not be more impressive. This 14 inch laptop has a very beautiful design and a chassis built using nano-imprint lithography, giving it a nice well-finished look.
The dimensions of the Gigabyte Aero are compact, making of it a great choice among slim gaming laptops. It has a weight of just 4.19 lbs (1.89 kg) which is quite low, considering its a high-end gaming laptop. With a thickness of 0.78 inches, it is easy to transport your Gigabyte Aero anywhere you need.
