Here is an article about buying a Laptop with IPS display to work with Photoshop, Corel Draw or other photo edition software.
With so many nomenclatures regarding monitors, their technologies and resolutions, it can be a very confusing experience to choose a laptop and actually understand what one can expect about its display quality, and in this post, we will try to explain what is a laptop with IPS display and why you should choose one if you work with photoshop or other photo edition software.
What is a Laptop IPS Display?
You have probably heard that IPS displays are good, and that IPS stands for In-Plane Switching, but it is very hard to find a simple explanation why these screens are so appealing, specially for photographers, designers and other end users which work with software like photoshop.
IPS is a type of technology used in TFT LCD displays, which is itself the widest technology used in laptops and PC monitors. The TFT LCD displays can be split in TN TFT LCD or IPS TFT LCD, and even if the IPS technology is more advanced than the TN, both have their advantages.
While TN TFT LCDs have faster response rates, which is definitely appealing for gamer, IPS screens display colors more equally and from a wider angle viewing, which is a key factor for graphic designers and photographers for example.
What is the Advantage of an IPS Display on My Laptop?
Having better color accuracy and improved viewing angles, IPS displays will play a major role if you use software like Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Autodesk 3d Studio Max, Sony Vegas and any other photo and video software, as you will identify better colors and patterns as they are, regardless of the angle of your screen, or where it is placed.
Within the IPS technology itself, there are a lot of different modules, as the technology improved over the years, and Apple market their devices with IPS displays and LED backlight as “Retina Display”.
