If you love watching movies and playing games with the highest definition possible, you are probably very excited with the upcoming releases of 4k ultra hd laptop notebooks on tech markets worldwide.
Even if you probably just heard of 4k Ultra HD laptop notebooks in the last 2 years, this technology has been developed and researched for more than a decade, having its first appearance in cinema cameras back in 2003. But 4k devices have just been popularized since 2011 when some movie theatres started to use 4k projectors. Youtube also started its moves towards 4k in 2010, but just in 2015 it was made available for all users to upload videos in this definition.
Difference between 4k and Ultra HD
Before analyzing the newest 4k ultra HD laptops on the market, it’s important to determine what is the actual difference between these two terms. While High Definition refers to images displayed at a resolution of 1080p of height (and a total resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels) 4k has a resolution that is four times bigger with 4096 x 2160 pixels. To understand why 4k is four times greater than HD, one needs to multiple the resolution of width and height together, which gives 2 milion pixels for HD and 8 milions for 4k.
Now that we understood the concepts of HD and 4k, we can identify the differences between 4k and Ultra HD. The Ultra HD resolution is very near to the 4k resolution, being that of the ultra HD just slightly smaller with 3840 x 2160 pixels. In retail, you will often find products market with both labels as a 4k and ultra HD, as for they have not much practical differences.
4k laptops are still quite in the upper price range, being mostly sold above $1000 since this technology is relatively recent, but the good news is that the number of devices able to display games and videos in this resolution is growing steadily, giving customers a wide scope of choices among laptops with different hardware specs.

This laptop has a very similar setup as the MSI, but its Intel i7 processor is  from the 5th generation (Broadwell) while the MSI has a 6th generation processor. Other than that, they are pretty similar high-end machines built for gamers. The greatest advantage for this Acer laptop, is that it’s price is about 50% lower than the MSI’s, which can be explained since this model was released in May, making it to lose a bit of the appeal that a extremely new release has.
