Best Laptops for BeamNG Drive

Let’s check the best laptops for BeamNG drive, one of the most exciting driving simulation games released in the past few years

Do you like driving simulation games but you think they lack good physics? Check our list of the best laptops for BeamNG drive and understand why this game is one of the most acclaimed in the niche of vehicle simulation currently.

What is BeamNG drive?

The game is officially called BeamNG.drive with a dot, and its name is definitely not the most unusual aspect about it. BeamNG is a driving simulation game with extremely realistic physics, and that includes car crashes.

Unlike simulation series like Forza or Gran Turismo, on BeamNG cars literally become a wreck, and that is just beautiful to watch. BeamNG was released on May 29th 2015 on Steam and since then, it has become an instant hit. The main reason behind its success are its physics, and they are quite unique.

BeamNG uses the Torque game engine to calculate real-time, soft-body dynamics of its vehicles. This reflects in extremely realistic calculations. Every time you crash a vehicle on BeamNG.drive, it behaves extremely similar as it would in real life. In fact, many videos on YouTube compare real life crash tests with BeamNG.drive. In most cases the results are very similar.

BeamNG Laptop Requirements

If you want to run BeamNG.drive on your laptop, we have (mostly) good news. The game itself is not very heavy, and you will be able to run it decently in most mid-range laptops available in 2017. If you start inserting too much vehicles on your scenery, performance tends to drop if you lack hardware, though.

The BeamNG.drive wiki suggests three setups to run the game on your computer, but they are mostly aimed at desktop PCs. We will focus on the Moderate and High End Requirements, as the Minimum Requirements, even aren’t very recommended on the BeamNG wiki itself.

The moderate requirements suggest a mid-end Core i5 processor and a NVIDIA GTX 560 or equivalent. Considering laptops, I would recommend a dual core Skylake i5 or superior, and a GTX 950M or superior.

If you want to run BeamNG.drive on your laptop with high settings and no restrictions, you will need more. For laptops, I would recommend at least 8 GB DDR4 RAM, a quad core processor from the Skylake or Kaby Lake generation. In terms of GPU, a GeForce 1060 (mobile) will probably guarantee a very smooth experience on BeamNG.drive.

So -a new laptop would be his big B-day gift… Will a Lenovo ideapad S340 15.6″ Laptop, Intel Core i5-8265U Quad-Core Processor, 8GB Memory, 128GB Solid State Drive, Windows 10 work?? Is there something cheaper than this that may work?? Also any recommenations on a somewhat low priced steering wheel controller?? Right now he’s trying to run this off an old laptop of mine and is using a playstation controller. He gets by but we are very glitchy and lock up a lot. (We are NOT gamers at all so we are clueless)

    • Hi Carin, What a great gift for the little one! I believe the Lenovo S340 would get the job done. Something with 16GB RAM is recommended though. But your son would likely be fine with the Lenovo. PXN makes an afforable steering wheel. Have fun!

    • Hi Shilos, the minimum requirement is 8GB RAM. So 6GB plus lower graphic settings might have you a bit disappointed with how choppy it would run. I’d recommend getting to at least 8GB RAM. Good luck!

The specs I see on this Honor MagicBook seem like they should be able to handle BeamNG. You can find a laptop for around 500 GBP but the higher performance machines that will run it smoothly will cost closer to 1000 GBP. Good luck!

    • Hi Bert, as long as it has at least 8GB RAM, which most of the Ispirons do, you should be ok. Although the video card isn’t the best with these, so for perfect results you may want something more powerful. But I think you should be good. Have fun!

        • I actually have tried the game, but the graphics were awful, and it gave me this warning about my graphics card. Then, 30 minutes later the game would crash every time. It really just doesn’t want me to play the game. Can I somehow upgrade my graphics card to be able to play? Thank you!

          Reply
          • Hi Ty, that stinks! BeamNG does require a lot so not entirely surprising. Like I said, ideally you’d also have 16GB RAM. This is also important. You can upgrade the graphics card, it’s not too hard but I generally don’t recommend trying it at home because if you’re not careful, you can wind up frying the whole board. Search for tutorial videos and see if you’d like to take it on, but I’d suggest taking it to a professional. Good luck!

    • Hi John, no I don’t think BeamNG will work for you. You need a good, dedicated graphics card and ideally 16GB RAM. But without a good graphics card you probably won’t even be able to load the program.

      Reply
    • Hi Alex, if you have the Aspire 3 with at least 8 GB RAM and the NVIDIA dedicated graphics card then yes I think you’d be able to run BeamNG. If you have the 4GB with the shared card, no it will not run. Good luck!
